As the current Commandant of National War College, Brigadier General Tom Cosentino said, Brigadier General Darren Hartford, U.S. Air Force, has been announced to assume command as the 29th Commandant of the National War College.
Brigadier General Hartford is a 1989 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and holds a MA in Human Resource Development from Webster University, a MA in Operational Art from the Air Command and Staff College (where he was a Distinguished Graduate), he completed the Air War College by correspondence, he completed the MIT Seminar XXI, and most importantly he is a graduate and holds a MS in National Security Strategy from the National War College Class of 2008.
Brigadier General Hartford is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours in C-5, C-17, and KC-135. He has commanded at multiple levels including Commander, 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston, SC and his current assignment as the Commander 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar where his composite wing includes strike; ISR; mobility; aeromedical evacuation; and C2, all operating in support of OEF, counter-terrorism operations, and deterrence and assurance in the Middle East. In addition to an impressive academic and command resume, Brigadier General Hartford also has served at higher level strategy and policy positions in the JCS J5 where he rose to hold the position of Assistant Deputy Director for START Follow-on negotiations.
Brigadier General Hartford will be joined by his wife Ms. Tina Hartford, his daughter Cameron Hartford (13) and son Matthew Hartford (11).
Brigadier General Tom Cosentino also said: “We are extremely lucky to have such a distinguished graduate of the National War College coming home to assume command as the 29th Commandant. Brigadier General Hartford will assume command in July. I know you will all work hard to make his and his family's transition a smooth one.
