The flag of the North-Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was raised in front of the Presidency in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.
At 11:00 local time (EEST) the Bulgarian President and Bulgarian Armed Forces' Commander-in-Chief Rosen Plevneliev personally received the formation of the guards at the front entrance of his office.
Bulgaria joined NATO on March 29, 2004, under the government of Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Bulgaria's last monarch.
The country's accession was part of the biggest-ever expansion of the alliance alongside Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
